2010 creative writing competition
All the stories raise uncomfortable questions and make you think about what imprisonment means in a fresh, but disturbing way.

Michael Palin (former Prison Reform Trust writing competition judge).

Following the successful re-launch of the Prison Reform Trust writing competition last year, this year's competition will give prisoners and their families and friends another opportunity to explore their creative talent.

The scheme has attracted a very high standard of new writing and also provides a valuable creative outlet for those within and affected by the criminal justice system. Read some of last year's prize-winning pieces here.

This year the panel of competition judges will include Erwin James, a writer well known for his Guardian newspaper columns, reports and features on prisons and criminal justice issues, and Femi Oyeniran, a British actor and grime artist. Femi is most famous for his role as Moony in the 2006 film Kidulthood and its 2008 sequel Adulthood. More judges will be announced soon - check the PRT website for updated information.

The competition has three categories: a comment prize; the Andrew Groves short story prize; and a lyric/rap prize. Writers will be asked to focus on the themes 'Out for Good', 'Troubled Inside' and 'Inside Out'.
