This book is a comprehensive guide to the rules and regulations by which our prisons are run. Each Prison Rule Is cited in full with the relevant Prison Service Orders and Prison Service Instructions. Prison Rules: A Working Guide quotes extensively from the case-law on prisoners' rights and entitlements. If you are a family member, you can call the Prisoners’ Families Helpline on 0808 808 2003.

Prisoners Families' Helpline is open Monday to Friday 9 -8pm and Saturdays and Sundays 10 – 3pm

Getting advice - Prisoners

We have an advice and information service here. We help people in prison and people working with prisoners.

If you know someone in prison who is having problems, you can ask them to contact us.

Our free phone line  for prisoners is 0808 802 0060. It is open  Monday 3.30-7.30 and Tuesdays and Thursdays 3.30-5.30.

Prisoners can also call during office hours on 020 7251 5070 but this is not a free call. A prisoner does not need to add these number to their pin.

Phone calls to the Prison Reform Trust are confidential. We cannot give legal advice or provide counselling. Contact us here  if  you want to find out if we can help or there is something you could not find out about on the website.
