Our service occasionally produces booklets or information sheets covering a subject which we think prisoners would benefit from.  Please see below those that are currently available.
 


Extended sentences information sheet (May 2017)

This information sheet contains some information for people who have been convicted of some type of extended sentence - such as an Extended Determinate Sentence (EDS) or an Extended Sentence for Public Protection (EPP).

This booklet contains information for people convicted of a sex offence on release from prison. It may also be helpful to families, employers and people working with those convicted of a sex offence.

Human Rights booklet for prisoners (July 2014)

PRT has produced a human rights booklet for prisoners which explains your rights as a prisoner under the Human Rights Act. The booklet also provides information about cases which are important in a prison context, information about prison rules and guidance and information about where you can go for help and advice if you feel that you have not been able to access your rights.

Information Sheet for Immigration Detainees in Prison (May 2013)

This information sheet was produced in 2013 in collaboration with the Detention Advice Service (DAS).  It has information about your rights if you are being kept in prison by the immigration authorities.  DAS have sadly closed since the production of this information sheet but the information is still relevant.

This is an information sheet produced in 2012 following guidance introduced about sentence planning. It includes some information regarding offender behaviour programmes.

IPP Information Booklet (December 2008)

This booklet for IPP prisoners provides information on what the sentence is and how the sentence works. It was produced  in December 2008 before changes were made by the Legal Aid Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012 but much of it is still relevant and useful to those who received the IPP sentence before this. Below is also an update produced in December 2012 to cover the changes introduced by the LASPO Act 2012.

 PRISON RULES: A Working Guide (The Millenium Edition)

This book is a comprehensive guide to the rules and regulations by which our prisons are run. Each prison rule is cited in full with the relevant Prison Service orders and Prison Service instructions.

The book quotes extensively from the case-law on prisoners' rights and entitlements. It also draws upon reports from HM Chief Inspector of Prisons and successive official reports and inquiries. 

Please be aware that this publication is now 10 years old and some information will be out of date.
