Out of Trouble – our campaign to reduce the number of children and young people imprisoned in the UK

The number of under 18 year olds sentenced to custody in England in England and Wales more than tripled between 1991 and 2006. We lock up proportionately more children than any other country in Western Europe. The Out of Trouble team have been campaigning to reduce imprisonment for over two years. We have published briefings and research, lobbied ministers and civil servants and given advice to local Youth Offending Teams.
