Overcrowding
At the end of June 2008, 89 prisons, 64% of the estate, were overcrowded.  Overcrowding threatens prison safety and can lead to prisoners being held in inhuman, degrading and unsafe conditions.  The Prison Reform Trust have released a large number of press statements, which can be found here, about this pressing and current issue.
