This review sets out the outcomes of, and plans for, PRT’s five programmes designed to improve prison treatment and conditions, promote citizenship and human rights, respect diversity and the needs of minority groups, support prisoners and their families and promote community solutions to crime.
Its simplest message is conveyed by the images on the front and back covers – starting with a young father in prison tenderly holding his baby son, and ending with growing old and infirm in custody. It was published as recent Home Office figures reveal worsening reconviction rates running alongside rising prison numbers.
The review shows how PRT is working with its allies to make it clear that it doesn’t have to be like this.
